This question is called the "simulation hypothesis" and is discussed in various fields such as philosophy, religionology, and physics.
In the field of computer science, verification by implementation has been attempted based on the following idea.
If a lower world similar to the current world is constructed in the computer of the current world, the current world can be considered a lower world constructed in the computer of the upper world.
We incorporate and consider a human-centric approach to this idea as follows.
If humans in the current world can survive in the lower world constructed in the computers of the current world, the current world can be considered a lower world constructed in the computer of the upper world.
This follows the idea that since there is no guarantee that the upper world is the same as the current world, there is no need for the lower world to be the same as the current world.
In other words, even if the lower world is not materially equivalent to the current world, when humans enjoying the world come to regard the lower world as practically equivalent to the current world, the world is considered to have been constructed.
Based on this idea, this laboratory implements artificial worlds and attempts to verify simulation hypotheses.
